It was the spring of 1879 when Michael Foley, an Irish immigrant, decided to purchase Goodwin’s Laundry, where he had been employed for several years. At that time, the new Foley’s Laundry was located in Downtown Rutland, where their business was walk-in retail customers and home deliveries made by horse and buggy.
In the early 1920’s, Michael Foley passed away, leaving his two sons John and Joe to run the business. They continued to service the retail business and began to expand into the commercial market. A fleet of delivery trucks would now service the established accounts and allow for new businesses to be added in and beyond Rutland County. As the business grew, it became increasingly evident that a larger, more efficient facility was needed. In 1958, Foley Services found a new home on State Street in Rutland, with space for modern equipment and aims to scale the operation, where the company continues to operate from today.
Mark Foley Sr., Joe Foley’s son, had begun working in the business in the late 1960’s, where he started the uniform rental division. In 1978, Mark became the third generation to own and operate Foley Services. The business expanded, with continued investments in facilities and equipment, ensuring Foley Services remained one of the most modern laundries in New England.
In the mid 1990’s Mark’s son, Mark Foley Jr., joined the business and, in 2008, became the fourth generation owner. The company continues to invest in laundry automation, workforce development, and facility expansion. With a commitment to providing the highest level of products and services to our customers in Vermont, New Hampshire, and New York.
And now, into the 2020’s, a fifth generation of Foleys is working in the business. Together with our strong leadership team, we carry forward our commitment to the highest quality service to our customers and employees who have been part of our history and family since 1879.
